Castiel's 10 Commandments for Supernatural Season 7

Misha Collins Supernatural returns for its seventh season Friday at 9/8c on The CW with two burning questions: What do you do when you become God? And what do you do when you're the new God's former best friends? After ingesting all of the souls and their powers in Purgatory last season, Castiel (Misha Collins) declared himself the new God and demanded Sam and Dean Winchester (Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles) bow down before him ... or die. Although the brothers have encountered and even defeated their share of demons, angels and other non-humans before, God is a different story. "It's going to prove to be very difficult, not only for Sam and Dean, but Jared and Jensen now that Misha gets to say that he's God," Ackles joked at Comic-Con this past summer. "Good lord!" Exclusive Supernatural photos: New pics of the Winchester boys! Collins, however, is less demanding than his on-screen alter ego. He has more fun and less fire and brimstone in mind for Castiel. "I'd have him sing some karaoke, probably 'Eye of the Tiger,'" he told TVGuide.com. After viewing a sneak peek of the season premiere and speaking to the cast and producers of the show, we imagined what Castiel's 10 Commandments for the new season would be. Besides, can't you just imagine him declaring precepts from a mountaintop, with his trenchcoat flapping in the breeze? [Warning: The following contains minor spoilers from the premiere and should not be considered a true religious text in any way.] Castiel's 10 Commandments for Supernatural Season 7: 1. Thou shalt not kill ... unless you're a new, all-powerful God, of course. Castiel is hopped up on power and exacts his own brand of justice on those in Heaven and on Earth. "We talked about people who were doing stuff in the name of God that was corrupt or wrong," showrunner Sera Gamble said. "We were looking for fairly big off-screen targets, people who would be ruining a lot of people's lives. We tried not to make it left-wing, right-wing politics. It really is about hiding behind God to do wrong things to people, at least in Castiel's mind. And now, he feels that's his personal responsibility to clean house." 2. Thou shalt honor your hunter brother. After previously being separated either physically (Sam doesn't recommend getting trapped in Hell) or spiritually (Sam doesn't recommend leaving behind your soul in Hell), the brothers will be more united this season. Ackles said,"Last season was just a nightmare not having that partner in crime. Soulless Sam ... it took the character of Sam out of Dean's life. This season they're on the same team, they're headed down the same road together. Due to that aspect of this new God, there is released an evil that the boys have no idea how to handle. ... All the tools of the trade that they've used over the past six years or all their lives are pretty much useless." Jensen Ackles previews Season 7 of Supernatural 3. Thou shalt take any opportunity to use guest stars from the Whedonverse. Former Buffy the Vampire Slayer co-stars James Marsters and Charisma Carpenter will play a bewitching couple in the fifth episode. "That was not a coincidence, that was really hard work on the part of our casting directors," said Gamble. "This couple seemed like a good opportunity to cast a couple. The first idea floated [out] by the network was, 'Is there a real couple we could cast?' Our very creative and savvy casting directors came back with this genre-specific idea that I think is great. I think it speaks very directly to our fan base. In this way, our casting directors really understand the people who watch the show." 4. Thou shalt use flashbacks to show off young Winchesters. Ackles directs the third episode, which gives an insight into teenage Sam (Colin Ford). "We go back in time and see Sam as a 15-year-old," said Ackles. "He's hunting and doing what he doesn't want to be doing at that age, but he does it because that's what father and older brother are telling him to do. It's a little slice of life from his point of view and from his past." Gamble added, "Young Sam gets left behind in a town while Dean and John go off to hunt and he runs into this girl and has a brief but important relationship with her. Then this is sort of the present-day story, so we use sort of a parallel structure to tell those two stories. [Jewel Staite] plays that old friend of Sam's that he's been reunited with after a long time." It should be noted that the casting of Firefly's Staite also abides by the third commandment. 5. Thou shalt allow the other Winchester to have his own story arc. "Dean will have lots of issues this year that he's going to have to deal with," executive producer Bob Singer said. "We have an episode coming up and he basically is on trial with an Egyptian god, Osiris, who weighs your heavy heart against a feather, and if your heart is heavier than the feather, then he does you in. It's all about carrying guilt and that sort of thing. It's not just, 'Do I feel bad?' but 'Do I feel guilty?' That's kind of a big turning point for Jensen's arc this year." Gamble added, "Osiris calls [Jo (Alona Tal)] as witness against Dean." Fall TV: Get the lowdown on this season's must-see new shows 6. Thou shalt practice self-absorption, especially if you're a Crossroads demon of Scottish origin. "You'll see more of Crowley (Mark Sheppard). Crowley is sort of the ultimate, self-interested character," Gamble said. "He always find a way to bend whatever is happening to his own best uses. As the weather kind of changes, he kind of finds a way to insert himself into the situation. I mean, there's a reason he's lived this long, there's a reason why he always finds the parachute under his seat. As things evolve this season, he'll try and adapt. He's always fun so we keep throwing stuff at him." 7. Thou shalt include frivolous episodes to lighten the demon-fighting mood. Could there be another episode like "The French Mistake" on the horizon? "There are a couple coming up that are quite fun," said Singer. "I think it's a pattern we've always followed by picking up the thread of what happened last year in those cliff-hangers we sort of threw some of these darker, more mythology-driven episodes. Once we've established what the playing field is for this year then we let ourselves go." 8. Thou shalt introduce new allies because the old ones keep getting killed. "There's an old acquaintance of Bobby's named Frank who is a bit off the grid," said Gamble. "As Sam and Dean get squeezed in an upcoming episode and have to kind of drop out of sight a bit more, he sends them to Frank, and Frank is this really difficult guy to deal with. [At another point,] Dean is stuck in an emergency situation and ... Bobby sends him this guy named Garth, who's going to be played by D.J. Qualls, so he's very quirky." Buffy's Spike and Cordelia to play husband and wife on Supernatural 9. Thou shalt play with time travel just so Sam or Dean can play dress-up. Last season the Winchester boys went to the Old West, and this season they're sticking a little closer to home time-wise. "We're breaking an episode right now that's pretty cool where [they time-travel] by a whole new means actually. It's not an angel time-travel episode. One of the guys ends up stuck in 1944, which is very different from getting stuck in the Wild West. It's a darker time period. It turns out that a case they were trying to solve back then is the same as the case that Sam and Dean are trying to solve now. The tropes of the time period are really fun. In its own way, it's iconic and as fun as the Western." 10. Thou shalt not kill the Impala. At the end of last season, Sam and Dean's favorite mode of transportation was destroyed (again). "Why does all the evil in the universe hate the Impala so much?" Gamble said. Singer added, "[Dean] will fix it. It'll be back. Like the show, it's the car that would not die." Supernatural rears its righteous head for its seventh season on Friday at 9/8c on The CW. Are you happy to see Sam, Dean and Castiel back? What would you like to see this season?

Trishna

A Head Gear Films and UK Film Council presentation in association with Metrol Technology and VTR Media Investments of a Revolution Films Prod. in co-production with Bob Film Sweden and Film i Vast with support from Swedish Film Institute in association with Anurag Kashyap Films. (International sales: Bankside Films, London.) Produced by Melissa Parmenter, Michael Winterbottom. Executive producers, Phil Hunt, Compton Ross, Shail Shah, Andrew Eaton. Co-producers, Anna Croneman, Jessica Ask, Anurag Kashyap, Guneet Monga, Sunil Bohra, Anthony Wilcox. Directed, written by Michael Winterbottom, based on the novel "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" by Thomas Hardy. With: Freida Pinto, Riz Ahmend, Roshan Seth, Meeta Vasisht, Harish Khanna. (English, Hindi, Marwari dialogue)From "Clueless" to "Cruel Intentions" to "Easy A," high school has provided directors a quick setting to approximate the conservative mores of classic novels in the modern world. With "Trishna," Michael Winterbottom happens upon an inspired alternative, relocating "Tess of the d'Urbervilles" to contempo India, where the Victorian attitudes of Thomas Hardy's romantic tragedy still echo in a meaningful way today. Starring an incandescent Freida Pinto, "Trishna" acknowledges but doesn't exactly embrace the Bollywood tradition, marrying Winterbottom's naturalistic style with terrific songs by Amit Trivedi. Exotic result should attract extensive festival and specialty play. As writer-directors go, Winterbottom has managed to sustain quite a career without repeating himself, largely by rejecting established genres and telling whichever stories catch his fancy. While "Trishna" marks the third time Winterbottom has found inspiration in Hardy's novels, its style and approach couldn't be more different than in the relatively straightforward "Jude" or "The Claim," which recast "The Mayor of Casterbridge" in the Old West. The helmer has discovered in Hardy an artist devoted to capturing a critical turning point between the old ways and modern city life, recognizing that the same upheaval that struck Wessex toward the end of the 19th century has been repeated elsewhere in the world at different times. By expanding on that idea, "Trishna" reps the best kind of adaptation, one that worries less about faithfully rehashing the plot of an earlier literary work than really engaging with its most important themes. Here, the lovely heroine is born at a disadvantage, the eldest daughter of a poor rural family living at a time when other Indians are moving to cities and growing rich on the opportunities they find there. The television offers a taste of fantasy, thanks to corny musical melodramas whose dance moves Trishna tries at home, but duty comes first. After her father is badly injured in a Jeep accident, Trishna accepts the invitation of a handsome stranger -- a big-eyed college boy named Jay Singh ("Four Lions'" Riz Ahmed), a composite of Tess' two suitors from the book -- to work for a fancy tourist hotel owned by his benevolent, blind father (Roshan Seth). Class gives Jay the upper hand. His father's success in industry offers him the luxury of doing what he likes with his life; by contrast, Trishna's entire family depends on the generous wage she earns in town. This fundamental inequity, compounded by the way a society that still practices arranged marriage treats the genders differently, lies at the heart of this admirable young lady's tragedy. She finds herself at Jay's mercy, permanently disgraced after he seduces her one evening. Until this point, roughly an hour into the film, "Trishna" is demure enough to not ruffle the feathers of even an Indian film censor. However, with the character's illicit pregnancy and subsequent abortion, the film acquires an edgy contempo feel. The language grows coarser, the sexuality becomes more brazen and the overall style integrates elements associated with Bollywood cinema -- including one full-blown dance number Trishna sees when visiting a Mumbai film set. By combining the Angel and Alec characters from the book, Winterbottom has created an intriguing new possibility, one in which Trishna could conceivably choose independent success (an option unavailable to Hardy's heroine). Reuniting with Jay, Trishna follows him to Mumbai, where he is dabbling in the local film industry. Pinto, who looks so forlorn for much of the movie, comes alive in the presence of music. In settling for an increasingly imbalanced love affair with the wrong man, the true passion she's denying is one for dance -- which, given her newfound film biz connections, could launch her as a Bollywood star. Though Jay blocks this plan, Winterbottom never quite convinces that the character is cruel enough to deserve the fate that awaits him, and the latter third of "Trishna's" tale feels heavy-handed in its attempts to orchestrate the desired emotional response. Sudden and brutal, the tragic story's climactic murder achieves what the helmer failed to do in "The Killer Inside Me," shocking auds through sheer intensity (and proving that perhaps the strategy wasn't as misogynistic as Winterbottom's critics first assumed). Marcel Zyskind's widescreen HD lensing may not be the ideal resolution for a megaplex screen, but proves more than adequate to capture the production's vivid costumes and colors, presented as a dizzying blend of narrative shots and atmospheric cutaways. Winterbottom's quick-cut style is neither Hollywood nor Bollywood, but distinctly his own. Even the music, which mixes Trivedi's songs with a beautiful original score by Shigeru Umebayashi (composer for Wong Kar Wai and Zhang Yimou), reinforces the helmer's unique approach to the material.Camera (widescreen, color, DCP), Marcel Zyskind; editor, Mags Arnold; music, Shigeru Umebayashi; original songs, Amit Trivedi; production designer, David Bryan; costume designer, Niharika Khan; sound (Dolby Digital), Will Whale; supervising sound editor, Joakim Sundstrom; re-recording mixer, Per Bostrom; visual effects supervisors, Gus Martinez, Marc Knapton; visual effects, the Brewery; associate producers, Wendy Brazington, Elliot Ross, Fenella Ross; casting, Mukesh Chabra. Stellan Skarsgrd talks David Fincher's Girl Using The Dragon Tattoo

Has Stellan Skarsgård stop by a little Sigmund Freud? It appears the Swedish actor has a little the Austrian psychiatrist about him if this involves evaluating company directors."Every one has their very own methods for working and also the more gifted the company directors are, the greater you'd like to learn what their childhood was like really," the Thor and Avengers star told Super hero Hype."David Fincher stated in my experience whenever we met, 'This won't be fun, because I sometimes do 40 takes of every set-up'. And That I stated, 'It had better be fun, and that i don't mind doing 40 takes, so let us make 40 fun takes'."So could it have been fun?"I truly loved it. He's very thorough, but it is no rectal factor," Skarsgård added. "You are able to really do 40 takes which are 40 versions of the scene, that can bring it to existence."That being stated, appears Fincher may be someone to avoid for stars who choose chilling out within their trailer."He works solid, meaning you shoot constantly. You do not sit and wait and that i like this,Inch Skarsgård added.

The Closer Creator James Duff Previews "Star Turn"

The Closer Of all the darker passions lurking in the ordinary psyche, none is more brilliantly deceptive than the love of glory. Fame-seeking destroys decent people in ways only an addict could truly comprehend. Wars, political debacles, the dispassionate way one's personal honor is laid aside in order to bask in the bonfire of a media burnout: the infamy of fame knows no limits and, once embraced, can hardly ever be fully released.Sadly, most of us are more susceptible to the influence of celebrity than we would like to admit: it's a natural vulnerability, exploited by confessional talk shows and pop idol magazines, a disease that rivals the common cold, germinating public divorces into headline news, and superstar meltdowns into documentary fevers. It is impossible to live in LA-LA land without observing the mind-altering effects of too much recognition; it's made me want to forever sign my name with invisible ink.On The Closer, we have mostly stayed away from the famous when detailing the murders investigated by Deputy Chief Johnson and her Major Crimes division. It's hard to sound authentic when discussing a fictional celebrity. But what about those poor souls who flood Los Angeles on a daily basis, seeking the riches associated with fame and glory; the corpses of moths littering the bright, white spotlight, all the dazzled individuals incinerated by the projection of their own incandescent vanity? In "Star Turn," we begin with a man who moves his family from Ft. Wayne, Indiana to a Hollywood apartment based on the dream that his "little girl" might achieve the renown he and his wife were denied. He pays to produce a music video, starring said teenage daughter (feel free, at this moment, to make comparisons to a recent cultural phenomenon if you are so inclined); shortly after this saccharine song (a country-western pop anthem that we have done our dead level best to perform without irony) appears on-line, our delusional dad goes missing. The song "Daddy Say Yes," (which was recently posted on our Facebook page without the disclaimer that it was supposed to be tacky), becomes an instant, viral sensation.Fame achieved! But at what cost? A body is found. A family destroyed. A double-dealing manager appears, as well as a disgruntled grandfather, and, in a sly, special appearance, the much-admired Mario Lopez adds a veneer of polish to the whole affair. Special Guest Stars Ken Howard, Marc Pellegrino and Curtis Armstrong churn the action as Brenda Leigh Johnson threads her way toward a final decision in the pending lawsuit brought against her by the family of Turell Baylor. There is much yet to say about The Closer's last episodes, but there are still more of them to come than we have aired. We are, in fact, as of this writing, filming our hundredth entry into the series, and though we approach our summer finale with some sadness, we have lots of work left to do before our farewell. In the meantime, I should mention the multi-talented Stacey K. Black, in addition to composing the words and music to the Chekhovian masterpiece, "Daddy Say Yes", directed "Star Turn," and that Leo Geter wrote the script, and that the rest of the score - as always - was composed by the genius, Jimmy Levine, about whom I will be writing next week when we discuss Brenda's fate in "Fresh Pursuit."Until then. James Duff
